Chelsea fans know N’Golo Kante is one of their best players – if not their best.
Many people think he’s the one they have to keep at all costs, and it seems they’ve done that this summer – yet the midfielder is of course missing from their Community Shield line-up after being a key part of France’s World Cup winning squad.
While missing Eden Hazard clearly upset the Chelsea attack in terms of their threat, the loss of Kante was far more evident and the Blues found that out with the time and space Phil Foden was given when he set up Sergio Aguero for the goal that put City ahead in the game.
Chelsea’s midfield was being sliced through repeatedly, and many people made the point that if Kante missed many games this season, they’d be in trouble.
Of course, there are plenty more players Chelsea need to get back after the summer’s World Cup, and a new manager always takes some time to bed in – but without Kante, they look a far less complete outfit, and it was clear.
People talk about hazard, but Kante is our most important player #Cfc

To the surprise of no one, Chelsea’s midfield is a complete mess without Kante. pic.twitter.com/B8mIRxuPFu

We miss Kanté massively. Jorginho can’t do everything.

Our midfield without Kante is shambles. It isn’t protecting the defenders and it has failed to help the attackers so far.

Kante’s missing already.

52% possession for Chelsea against Man City shows how far we’ve come in a short space of time. Better finishing (or striker), and iron out the crack in midfield with Kante, and I’m sure we’ll be okay this season.

Chelsea’s midfield will be easy to slice through if Kante misses any games this season.

Loved how Foden recognized exactly where the space was and instead of playing the simple pass out wide to Mahrez he drove at Chelsea to be more of a direct goal threat.
Kante is trending on Twitter when he’s not playing. That’s how big of a miss he is.

To no one’s surprise, Chelsea’s midfield is really missing Kanté. Too slow. Easy for City to get through.
