Zouma to stay
Kurt Zouma is one of the most promising defenders in Europe, but that didn’t help him with injury and then breaking into Antonio Conte’s squad last season, so the player ended up sitting on the bench frustrated for the majority of the season.
It became clear a loan move or a permanent move away would be the best way for the player to get back on the pitch on a regular basis, and it seems that while he sees Chelsea as his long term future, it’s the former he wanted for the upcoming season.
Zouma has now joined Stoke on loan – but committed to the Blues with a new deal before doing so, putting pen to paper on a huge six year deal.
Chelsea’s Michael Emelano spoke ahead of the move, and the Express carry the following quotes: “It is fantastic Kurt has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea. He has shown his talent since joining us three years ago, and has returned from a serious injury with a fantastic attitude.
“Now he has the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League and we will be monitoring his progress closely while he is at Stoke.”
Thin on the ground
One thing Chelsea fans have pointed out this summer is the fact the squad look rather thin on the ground, and it seems that Conte is either expecting another defender to come in, or will just play twice a week in four competitions with the players he has.
While the Blues were lucky with injuries and suspensions last term, that may not be the case this time round, and they certainly have more games to worry about as well, meaning they may end up regretting letting someone as good as Zouma leave.
