Chelsea dealt massive blow as key man forced off injured

Chelsea dealt massive blow as key man forced off injured

Chelsea struggle against Watford

Despite being top of the Premier League, Chelsea struggled to show their title credentials in a first-half against Watford heavily delayed by a medical emergency in the stands.

The Blues were lucky not to be 2-0 down ahead of the suspension of play, and consistently turned the ball over, handing Watford the initiative. Some even dubbed it the club’s worst half of football under Thomas Tuchel.

Although they took the lead courtesy of Mason Mount, they were quickly pegged back by the Hornets, with Emmanuel Dennis levelling the scoring.

And it was Watford that ended the half in the ascendancy, sparking Tuchel into action as he thrust Thiago Silva on for Saul Niguez, pushing Trevoh Chalobah into midfield.

However, the latter didn’t last long.

Chelsea suffer another injury concern

Just over ten minutes into the second-half, Chelsea’s poor luck on the injury front continued to rear its ugly head.

Running back towards his own goal, Chalobah pulled up with what looked to be a hamstring strain, which subsequently forced him out of action.

To demonstrate just how weak Chelsea are in midfield at present, it was Hakim Ziyech, not another central option, that replaced the youngster.

Chalobah has been a revelation so far this season, having made 8 Premier League appearances and netting twice in the process from centre-back.

Meanwhile, he can also fill in in central midfield, something that would have been welcome given Saul’s struggles thus far, and the lengthy injury list Tuchel is being forced to deal with.

Sadly, Chalobah is now just another name on the treatment table.
