Chelsea dealt double injury blow as pair limp off against Malmo

Chelsea cruising against Malmo

Chelsea look set to move to six points from their opening three Champions League games, as they are currently 2-0 up and cruising against Swedish giants Malmo, which will set them up nicely to progress, with the Blues moving up to second in their group as things stand.

They have thus far taken three points from their opening two group games, beating Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 before losing to Italian giants Juventus by the same scoreline in Turin. A victory here would see them realistically require four points from their next three games, which includes a home tie against Juventus, as well as trips to Sweden and Russia.

However, a seemingly straightforward win on Wednesday has been well and truly tarnished by a pair of injury blows for Thomas Tuchel and co, who have just three days until their next fixture, a Saturday lunchtime clash with Norwich.

Werner and Lukaku limp off

As it stands, it could be touch and go as to whether Thomas Tuchel has any strikers to call upon for the clash with the Canaries in the Premier League. This comes as Timo Werner has followed Romelu Lukaku in limping out of the encounter with Malmo just before half time.

The German suffered what looked to be a hamstring issue, which could take some time to heal, although the extent of the injury is as of yet unknown. However, the fact that he opted to head straight down the tunnel is definitely not a good sign for Blues fans.

This led to Chelsea being forced into a second first-half change.

In turn, this leaves Kai Havertz as the only recognised forward in Chelsea’s ranks, with Callum Hudson-Odoi having occupied the role for the rest of the Champions League tie.

Will they be able to cope on Saturday?
