Chelsea Football Club have, on Saturday, released a statement, providing an update on the sale of the club.

Roman Abramovich has been owner of Chelsea since all the way back in 2003, winning countless trophies and making the Blues the second most successful club in England during the Premier League era.

Today, though, Chelsea have confirmed that a definitive agreement was entered into on Friday, to sell the club to Todd Boehly.

A statement on the capital club's official website reads: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that a final and definitive agreement was entered into last night to sell the Club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium. It is expected that the transaction will be completed on Monday. The Club will update further at that time.”

Chelsea eyeing Kounde

With the club's takeover now seemingly over the line, Thomas Tuchel and co. will no doubt be desperate to get to business in the summer market.

The Blues are set to lose two of their best central defenders this summer in the form of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

They also need some investment in central midfield and potentially a new wing-back or two.

And now, it is being reported that Chelsea hope to sign Jules Kounde in a deal similar to the one which they thought would land the defender last summer.

The west Londoners offered £42m for Kounde 12 months ago, and believed that they had done enough to clinch an agreement, only for Sevilla to insist that the £67m clause in the Frenchman's contract be paid in full.

Now, though, Chelsea are hopeful that another bid in the region of £42m, including add-ons to take the total value up to £50m, will be enough to finally land Kounde:
