Chelsea boss Lampard admits N’Golo Kante’s injury ‘doesn’t look great’

Frank Lampard has provided a brief update on the fitness of N’Golo Kante, on the back of the injury picked up by the Frenchman during Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United.

United down Blues

The Blues welcomed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to Stamford Bridge last night, for a crucial matchup in the race for a spot in the Premier League’s top-4.

Ahead of kick-off, it was Chelsea who occupied 4th in the English top-flight.

Manchester United, meanwhile, sat 6 points adrift of the Pensioners.

As such, the Red Devils were no doubt aware ahead of kick-off that a defeat would have seen their Champions League hopes dealt a fatal blow.

In the end, though, it was Solskjaer’s men who emerged victorious from Stamford Bridge.

A controversy-filled clash, during which the visitors benefitted from the rub of the green courtesy of VAR on more than one occasion, eventually saw United clinch a 2-0 win.

Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire bagged the goals for the Manchester giants either side of half-time.

Kante latest

Chelsea’s defeat last night, meanwhile, was also compounded by a blow on the injury front.

With just over 10 minutes on the clock, N’Golo Kante went to ground in evident pain.

After being tended to by the hosts’ medical team, it quickly became clear that the Frenchman would be unable to continue, forcing Frank Lampard to hook his star midfielder for Mason Mount.

And, as outlined above, Lampard has since provided an update on Kante’s fitness.

Speaking in anticipation of his side’s upcoming meetings with Tottenham and Bayern Munich over the coming week, the Blues boss confirmed that it ‘doesn’t look great’ for his World Cup winner:

‘It’s an abductor injury. We’ll have to assess it, scan it, but it doesn’t look great.’
