Chelsea boss explains why his side fell apart during Tottenham defeat

Losing

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has explained that his side have lost a huge chance to close the gap on Tottenham Hotspur, and will now struggle to get into the top four – meaning they’ll be without Champions League football next season.

He explained that his side probably should have been two goals to the good, but their confidence was badly knocked in the second half – thought he stopped short of questioning his side’s mental strength, he did criticise them for not being clinical enough.

He said: “The goal at the end of the first half it wasn’t good for us and our confidence.

“We deserved to go in 2-0 up but football is this and Eriksen scored a fantastic goal.

“Second half we tried to score again but Tottenham have been more clinical than us.

“In this season we are not so clinical and then we lost the game.

“For sure we lost a great chance today to reduce the gap with Tottenham.

“There are seven games to go and we have to do our best until the end.

“At the end of the season you finish in the position you deserve.”

Leaving

Chelsea may be facing a huge amount of departures this summer, with their manager certain to go and top players also looking for the exit.

The likes of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard may well be looking for the exit – especially if Chelsea are facing time outside the Champions League once again, something that will also hinder in their search for a new manager and when trying to recruit players this summer as well.
