Antonio Conte has been fairly vocal about wanting more players to be added to his squad, and made his point over and over again in the summer in that respect, but now, as the January window approaches, he’s played down the suggestion that Chelsea may look to add to their squad in the summer.
He noted that at the minute, he will be focusing on the huge amount of games that will be coming in the Christmas period and will then look to the transfer window, where you have to imagine he will have a list of players, especially given Chelsea could well face a tough draw in the first knockout round of the Champions League.
Standard Sport carry the following quotes: “I don’t want to speak about this. We have just started December and there is one month until January, then about this topic I think it is better to speak to the club and to tell my opinion.
“Then, like every time, the last decision was the club. I can give my opinion but the last decision is of the club, and it is right to do this.”
One area that Conte will be looking to strengthen in is up top, with Alvaro Morata settling into life at Chelsea like a duck to water – but with injury and suspension fears, not to mention the sheer amount of games the Blues have to play this season, it stands to reason that Conte may decide to give Morata a rest and look to another forward.
While Michy Batshuyai has scored when selected, it seems that Conte does not fully trust him, and as many people have pointed out, a top club should have more than two options as number nines if they want to win titles and have other tactical choices for the manager to make.
