Alvaro Morata vs Andy Carroll
On Monday in the Times, pundit Tony Cascarino argued that Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is the new Andy Carroll.
To be clear, being compared to the West Ham striker wasn’t really meant to be a compliment.
Last weekend Chelsea beat Stoke 5-0 at Stamford Bridge, but Morata failed to get on the scoresheet.
Indeed the Spanish international missed two good chances against the Potters.
In his first season in the Premier League, Morata has already scored 10 goals. West Ham’s Carroll, meanwhile, has yet to get off the mark.
Nevertheless, Cascarino made the following argument:
There are many players who are better with their head than their feet, Andy Carroll being a prime example.
I now realise that Alvaro Morata, who cost Chelsea about £60 million, is one of them.
If he has a header, nine times out of 10 he scores, but he often misses chances with his feet, which should be easier.
You’d think it’d be easier to score with your feet, but he misses loads with both feet.
Chelsea & West Ham
West Ham are back in action on Tuesday. The Hammers take on West Brom at the London Stadium in the ‘Alan Pardew derby’.
The Baggies come into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.
As for the Irons, they’ve benefitted from extra days off during the festive period. Their match against Tottenham was postponed until Thursday.
As for Chelsea, who moved into second last weekend, they take on Arsenal on Wednesday.
Last season Arsenal famously beat Chelsea 3-0 in this fixture as Antonio Conte first deployed his 3-at-the-back formation.
