Champions League: Atletico Madrid’s plan to wind up Chelsea

Atletico Madrid v Chelsea

One of the standout matches in the Champions League in midweek is in Spain.

Atletico Madrid, who have recently lost two finals to Real Madrid, welcome Chelsea to their brand new Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday.

Chelsea started their UCL campaign in style. Antonio Conte’s charges thumped Qarabag 6-0 in their opener.

As for Atletico, they were held to a 0-0 draw away at Roma.

All about Diego Costa

Ahead of the Champions League clash, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have been finalising an important transfer.

After months of haggling, the Premier League and La Liga sides confirmed a deal for Diego Costa last week.

Costa, 28, has finally agreed a move back to Atletico Madrid and arrived in the Spanish capital on Friday, ending weeks of exile in Brazil.

The Rojiblacnos are said to have agreed a £67 million fee for Costa.

On Sunday, the Sun report on Atletico’s plans to unveil Costa to their supporters. In news set to wind up Chelsea, the Sun announce:

Diego Costa could be paraded in front of Atletico Madrid fans ahead of their Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Should he be paraded in front of home supporters on Wednesday, it will no doubt ramp up what should already prove to be a raucous atmosphere in the brand-new Wanda Metropolitano’s first Champions League encounter.

Atletico Madrid 2 – Sevilla 0

Atletico Madrid warmed up for the Chelsea game beating Sevilla 2-0 at home on Saturday.

Yannick Carrasco opened the scoring for Atleti, before Antoine Griezmann killed the match with the second goal of the game.
