Celtic vs Aberdeen betting tips: Scottish League Cup Final match preview and predictions

Celtic vs Aberdeen prediction: Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic

It League Cup final time at Hampden Park.

Brendan Rodgers has won all 6 domestic trophies on offer since he became Celtic manager and will be looking to make that 7 here.

In the first two of those finals, it was Aberdeen who they defeated.

Can Derek McInnes get some revenge?

It’s a big ask.

Nevertheless, this will be a great occasion.

Celtic vs Aberdeen: Match preview

Aberdeen take on Celtic in a cup final. Again.

The Dons are currently languishing down in sixth place in the Premiership but come into this one in decent form.

They beat Rangers 1-0 in the semi-final in October, Lewis Ferguson getting the only goal of the game late on, and that result seemed to spark a revival.

They won their next 3 Premiership games, beating Hamilton Academical, Kilmarnock and then Hibernian.

However, they crashed back down to earth on Saturday.

They were abysmal and were comfortably beaten 3-0 at Fir Park by struggling Motherwell.

They’re going to have to put in their best performance of the season if they’re to have any chance of beating the champions.

Celtic meanwhile are ‘back to their best’ according to Brendan Rodgers and it’s hard to disagree.

The Hoops have amassed 19 points from their last 7 SPFL games, scoring 24 goals in the process.

That run began with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Celtic Park back in September and, last Saturday, they comfortably beat Hamilton 3-0 at New Douglas Park.

On Thursday night, Celtic travelled to Trondheim to take on Rosenborg in a must win Europa League tie.

Scott Sinclair scored the only goal of the game just before half time to secure a vital victory.

That result means that Celtic need just a point at home to already qualified RB Salzburg on matchday 6 to qualify for the knockout stages.

Now, they’ll be looking to add their first trophy of the season.

In the semi-final of this competition, they dismissed Heart of Midlothian 3-0.

Another dominant victory on the cards here?

If the task wasn’t hard enough for Aberdeen, they come into this game with 4 key absentees.

The Dons last won silverware when they won this trophy in 2014.

Shay Logan, Andrew Considine and Niall McGinn started in that win over Inverness Cally Thistle and will all start in this final too.

Graeme Shinnie lined up for Inverness that day and will be desperate to get his hands on a trophy for the first time as Aberdeen captain.

Star centre-back Michael Devlin is out with a Tarsal Rupture.

Tommie Hoban, Greg Tansey and Mark Reynolds are also all injured.

Lewis Ferguson scored the winner in the semi-final and would love to score his fourth goal of the season.

Gary Mackay-Steven will be their most dangerous player and will have to be on top form if his side are going to have any chance of victory.

The Dons have scored just 16 goals in the league this season and they might not have enough cutting edge to hurt Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers has some big decisions to make.

He’s already confirmed that backup goalkeeper Scott Bain will start for just the fifth time this season with Craig Gordon left in revere.

Right-back Mikael Lustig went off injured on Thursday and is unlikely to be fit it time.

Costa Rican international Cristian Gamoba will start for just the fourth time this season in his place.

Captain Scott Brown is back from injury but could be left on the bench once again

Olivier Ntcham is likely to come in for Tom Rogic who is only just back from injury himself.

Callum McGregor’s reinvention as a deep-lying play maker has been the catalyst for their recent good form.

Ryan Christie will be looking to make an impact against his former club.

James Forrest has been on fire recently scoring 12 goals in his last 11 games for club and country, including a hat-trick at Hampden in Scotland’s UEFA Nations League victory over Israel.

Up front, Odsonne Édouard was really poor in Norway and Leigh Griffiths could take his place.

This Celtic team should blow Aberdeen away and keep their hopes of a treble treble alive.
