Granit Xhaka Switzerland

Celtic’s Mikael Lustig confirms plans to get Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka sent off

Sweden vs Switzerland

The first match on the final day in the round of 16 sees Sweden take on Switzerland.

Sweden stunned everyone in the group phase in Russia.

After Toni Kroos scored a 94th minute winner against the Swedes, most presumed that Scandinavians would be sent packing.

But Sweden had other ideas, as they beat Mexico 3-0 to finish as group winners.

As for Switzerland, they’ve again proven their mettle at the World Cup.

The Swiss finished runners-up behind Brazil as they edged out Serbia and Costa Rica in the groups phase.

Celtic’s Mikael Lustig on Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka

In the build-up to Tuesday’s knockout match, Celtic’s Mikael Lustig has revealed how the Swedes are planning to take on Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.

The Celtic star have confirmed that the Swedes believe Arsenal’s Xhaka may be a weak link.

Indeed, Lustig thinks that Xhaka could be sent off. He said:

If you watch the Premier League you can see he tends to get red cards. It’s just about keeping your head and trying to get him sent off.

But Arsenal’s Xhaka has hit back at the red card mind games. The Swiss star, who is aware of Lustig’s comments, replied:

My friends have told me what the player said. It’s no problem for me.

It’s part of pre-match provocation, if you like, but I have learnt a lot in my time and I’m confident I won’t be pushed out of the game. Quite possibly I will stay on the pitch all the way to the end.

For the record, Xhaka has been shown nine red cards since 2014.
