Cash strapped Spurs will have to sell before buying this summer with Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier amongst players to be made available

Sell first

Whilst there has been lots of stories in the news recently regarding the future of Harry Kane at Spurs, the Daily Mail is reporting today that it may be a busy summer at Tottenham irrespective of their star striker.

Spurs are in need of defensive reinforcements this summer, but funds will need to be raised from player sales as the club has suffered with the cost of the new stadium burdening them greatly during the pandemic.

The Mail reports that the three areas of greatest need are goalkeeper, right back and central defence and that there are six players likely to be made available to finance new signings.

The players mentioned are, Danny Rose, Hugo Lloris, Erik Lamela, Serge Aurier, Juan Foyth and Carlos Vinicius, whom the club seem unwilling to activate his £36 million option to buy.

Danny Rose has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho and Hugo Lloris has been linked with a return to France and PSG to link up with former manager Mauricio Pochettino. The others may be seen as expendable by the club.

Next Keeper

Should Hugo Lloris move on, then Nick Pope may be the primary target to replace him.

Pope has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best goal keepers over the last couple of seasons at Burnley and is looking a certain bet to be in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.

He would no doubt prove to be an able replacement for the French World Cup winning captain, but whether Burnley would be willing to let him leave is another matter.
