Ancelotti wants Baines to stay put
Leighton Baines has been on Everton’s books since the summer of 2007, when he moved from Wigan.
Since making the switch to Merseyside, Baines has racked up over 400 appearances for the Toffees.
In those ties, Baines has scored 39 and assisted 67, a very impressive record for a full-back.
But at age 35, and with less than six months remaining on his current deal, Baines looked to be nearing the end of his Everton stint.
However, Baines, who has started Everton’s last two league ties, could well be set for another year with the Toffees.
Carlo Ancelotti, when speaking to Everton’s official website, recently stated that the club wants to keep Baines for another year, and will discuss it with him:
“Our idea, the idea of the Club, is, ‘Don’t stop playing, stay with us for the next year’.
“We would like to keep him and are going to talk with him.
“It would be good for us if he can stay. Physically, he has no problem.
“It [Baines remaining beyond this season] depends on what he is thinking and whether he wants to continue.
“I think he wants to continue but it is his decision.” As quoted by Everton’s official website.
Chelsea vs Everton
Everton’s next tie is away to Chelsea this coming Sunday.
The Toffees’ form has dipped off slightly recently, but they will still likely fancy themselves to get something away to Chelsea.
The Blues haven’t been in great form at home this term, and have won just one of their last five league ties.
Should Everton beat Chelsea, they could move as high as 9th in the Premier League table this weekend.
