Ancelotti planning rotation
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has suggested that he will rotate his squad for their clash with Newcastle this weekend, following the win over Burnley.
The new Toffees boss got off to a winning start on Boxing day against the Clarets, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring the only goal of the game.
Everton, though, have struggled with injuries this season, and lost a few players ahead of the clash with Burnley.
Alex Iwobi got injured recently, while Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have suffered long-term problems.
Now, with games coming thick and fast, Ancelotti has claimed that he will field a rotated team against Newcastle this weekend.
Keane, Davies & Baines all in contention for start
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game, Ancelotti admitted that he will ‘100%’ have to rotate the squad.
Ancelotti also cited Theo Walcott, Michael Keane, Tom Davies and Leighton Baines as players who could start.
“The players who didn’t play have more chance to play [tomorrow],” Ancelotti explained, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“It is impossible to recover from a game in 48 hours so the players who didn’t play against Burnley, have more possibilities to play but we will check and then we have to travel but I think the line-up will be decided on the day of the game, not before.
“I have to rotate the squad, for sure, 100%. We have some players who have recovered from injury – Walcott has a small possibility to play – we left out Michael Keane, Tom Davies, Baines and so all of these players have the chance to play.”
