A Premier League return for Ancelotti?
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly on Everton’s shortlist to replace Marco Silva, after he was sacked on Thursday evening.
Everton had only won four out of their opening 15 games of the season when Silva was sacked, with a 5-2 defeat to Merseyside rivals Liverpool the final nail in the coffin.
With the Toffees sat in the relegation zone after that defeat, they are now on the lookout for a manager who can start moving them up the table.
Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly contacted by Everton in the wake of Silva’s sacking, but it was reported not long after that their approach had been rejected.
Vítor Pereira was also claimed to be Everton’s preferred choice to replace Silva by Sky Sports on Thursday night.
Other managers such as David Moyes, Marcelino and Getafe’s José Bordalás were all linked on Friday.
Now, though, one very interesting name to be linked with the job is Carlo Ancelotti.
Would Ancelotti go to Everton?
According to the Mail, Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is on Everton’s shortlist to replace Marco Silva.
Their report reads: ‘Sportsmail understands that Everton have identified Ancelotti as a potential successor for the outgoing Silva, who was sacked on Thursday.’
Ancelotti is under pressure at Napoli, and is reportedly set for the sack in the coming days.
He would no doubt be a huge name for the Everton job, given his CV.
However, Everton do face competition for his signature if they decide to pursue the Italian.
According to the Mail’s report: ‘Ancelotti is also believed to be on Arsenal’s radar, with the top-flight strugglers’ woes continuing after a home defeat by Brighton and the replacement for Unai Emery still unclear.’
