Callum Wilson banned for Newcastle and Man United & Philip Billing injured in Wolves defeat

Wolves 1 – Bournemouth 0

After a dismal performance in a 2-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth looked a whole lot better on Wednesday night against Wolves.

Bournemouth were the better side in the opening stages of the game, even if the Cherries struggled to create too many goal scoring opportunities.

Yet, for all their endeavour, Bournemouth lost 1-0 at Molineux.

The key moment arrived on the hour mark, when Raul Jimenez slammed home a header following terrific work from Adama Traore down the right flank.

Callum Wilson banned for Newcastle and Man United

Bournemouth’s latest defeat has kept the Cherries in the bottom three.

Eddie Howe’s men have 27 points from 31 games, although they are only behind West Ham as the Hammers have a +2 goal difference over them.

Can Bournemouth get themselves out of trouble? Maybe, although they have to do without striker Callum Wilson in the next two matches.

Wilson was booked in the match at Wolves. That was his 10th booking of the season, which has triggered an automatic two-match ban.

Accordingly, Wilson will miss Bournemouth’s match at home against Newcastle on Wednesday, plus the trip to Man United next Saturday.

Will Josh King be available for the Newcastle and Man United fixtures? King missed the Wolves match with an ankle problem, while after the game Howe said:

We’ll wait and see (if King can play against Newcastle and Man United). Difficult to answer now.

He’s had a scan. It doesn’t look serious damage but I can only say he’d be fit if he trains and recovers in time.

Philip Billing injured in Wolves defeat

Early in the second half against Wolves, Bournemouth were forced into a change. Midfielder Philip Billing needed to come off, and he was replaced by Dan Gosling.

Biling is now a doubt for the Newcastle game, as Eddie Howe confirmed he sustained an injury in midweek:

We thought he would be okay to continue in the second half as it was a knock rather than a pull or a twist.

But, unfortunately, he was struggling very early. That was a disappointment because in the game I think he had made a difference.
