Calls for Burnley’s James Tarkowski to be banned for ‘stamp’ on Newcastle’s Joselu

Newcastle 2 – Burnley 0

Rafa Benitez continues to work miracles at Newcastle United.

On Tuesday night at St James’ Park, the Magpies ended Burnley’s excellent recent run with a 2-0 home win.

Newcastle broke the deadlock in sublime fashion as Fabian Schar crashed home a stunner from distance.

Sean Longstaff doubled Newcastle’s lead in the 38th minute with his first goal for the club.

The win lifted Newcastle up to 13th in the division on 31 points from 28 games. Burnley are 15th in the league with 30 points on the board.

James Tarkowski vs Joselu

Should Burnley defender James Tarkowski have been sent off against the Toon.

Tarkowski had Burnley’s best chance of the match as the centre-half missed the target just before the halftime break.

In the final seconds of the game, Tarkowski was accused of missing the target in a far more sinister incident.

The Clarets defender appeared to lose his rag when he challenged Newcastle’s Joselu in the middle of the park.

Tarkowski sent Joselu tumbling to the turf when he landed his knee in the back of the Newcastle forward’s leg.

That’s when things turned darker.

In a provocative move, Tarkowski narrowly missed stamping on Joselu’s face.

Indeed the Burnley defender seemed to angle his boot towards Joselu’s kisser after he placed it inches from face.

To cap things off, Tarkowski then bowed his head towards the prostrate Joselu to hurl verbal abuse at his opponent.

And how did referee Craig Pawson react? He did absolutely nothing.
