Interview in Przeglad Sportowy
Polish news outlet Przeglad Sportowy have published an excellent interview this week with Borussia Dortmund scout Artur Platek.
47-year-old Platek has been at the Signal Iduna Park since 2012, meaning he’s witnessed a lot of change at BVB in recent years.
Rejects Man United
But Platek has had opportunities to leave BVB, including moving to Manchester United.
The scout revealed how the Red Devils previously tried to sign him, but he rejected the approach. Platek has explained what happened:
They contacted me, but I did not consider the proposal.
I became involved in scouting at the request of Jurgen Klopp. To show thanks for the opportunity to work in such a club like Borussia Dortmund, I decided that I will not change my workplace.
Klopp & Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski joined Borussia Dortmund in 2010 from Lech Poznan, and Platek has now told the story of how the deal came about.
The current Liverpool boss used to disguise himself on scouting missions in Poland. Platek revealed:
From what I know, Robert Lewandowski was observed more than thirty times. That included secret visits by Jurgen Klopp at the stadium in Poznan, in cap and with a hood pulled over his head.
Borussia could not take a large financial risk at the time, which is why coach Klopp personally went to the scout Robert.
