Burnley’s Dwight McNeil on Pep Guardiola’s list of potential replacements for Leroy Sane – ESPN

A recent report claims that Manchester City have identified Burnley’s Dwight McNeil as a potential target.

McNeil’s Burnley stint

McNeil has been on Burnley’s books since 2014, when he signed for the club’s under-18 side from Manchester United.

The now-20-year-old would make his senior debut for the Clarets at the back end of the 2017/18 campaign.

And McNeil has since gone on to cement himself as an integral member of Burnley’s first-team.

All told, the England under-21 international has notched 60 appearances across all competitions for the Lancashire-based outfit.

The 2019/20 season, meanwhile, has been particularly impressive from McNeil’s perspective. The youngster combines electrifying pace with quick feet and superb crossing ability to form a key part of Burnley’s attack.

Man City eyeing McNeil

Unsurprisingly, the Clarets standout’s impressive displays over the last couple of seasons have seem him garner interest from some top sides.

McNeil’s former club, Manchester United, were linked with the winger earlier in the campaign.

And now, if the aforementioned report from ESPN is to be believed, then United’s neighbours, Manchester City, are the latest club to express an interest in McNeil.

Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that Leroy Sane will depart the Etihad either this summer or when his current contract expires in 2021.

And whilst the City boss has suggested that he may not look to replace the departing Sane, ESPN claim that Burnley winger Dwight McNeil is on Pep Guardiola’s list of potential replacements for Leroy Sane at Manchester City.
