Buffon comes in for heavy criticism after first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Juve

Past it

He might be one of the most loved footballers ever, but even that won’t stop Twitter users from making their feelings very clear about Gigi Buffon’s form against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

The goalie didn’t have the best first leg, and was, in some people’s eyes, at fault for the Son goal that put Spurs 1-0 up on the night, and 3-2 on aggregate, meaning it was going to be an uphill challenge.

Buffon has won it all – bar the Champions League – and everyone made that point as they wished for Juve to go though when the tie was made, yet it seems they will once again fail to lift the biggest domestic trophy of all – which could see Buffon carry on playing next season, despite rumours of retirement or being replaced at Juve given he’s taken a backseat in the league as well.

At times, Spurs did outclass Juventus, and while it wasn’t all Buffon’s fault, the goalkeeper will probably be his harshest critic.
