Brazilian star Bruno Guimaraes bags first Newcastle goal with stunning second-half effort

Newcastle United secured a vital three points on the road against Southampton at St. Mary's stadium as their resurgence under Eddie Howe continues with a 2-1 win on the south coast.

The Magpies now sit on 31-points, a full ten points clear of the drop zone, and look good value to stay up in the Premier League come to the end of the season.

The former Olympique Lyonnais standout bagged his first goal for the resurgent Magpies, with a magnificent back-heel from close range after center-back Dan Burn headed across the face of goal from Ryan Fraser's corner.

Now that the Brazilian has officially broken his goalscoring duck for the St. James' Park outfit, it will be curious to see how the central maestro can influence matters or the rest of the season.

Newcastle summer transfer plans take a hit

Despite winning six of their last seven in the Premier League and seemingly being on the up-and-up on the domestic front, Newcastle has taken another hit in their pursuit of Sevilla center-back Diego Carlos.

Newcastle have remained interested in the key defender after their attempts to sign him in January failed to materialize but they now appear to have been dealt a hammer blow to their chances after the player has committed himself to a new contract that ties him to Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium until 2025 with said contract also has an €80m release clause.

The club is also said to still harbor an interest in LOSC Lille's Dutch international Sven Botman as well, and should the club successfully avoid relegation, another spending spree is sure to commence as the club could look to replace the potential void that could be left by Chelsea amid their financial armageddon.
