A remarkable statistic involving Chelsea teammates Alvaro Morata and Cesar Azpilicueta has been unearthed following the Blues’ hammering of Stoke earlier today.
The two sides went head-to-head at the Bet365 Stadium this afternoon, with the home outfit in the midst of something of a defensive crisis.
Mark Hughes had only Bruno Martins Indi fit and available from his senior central defenders, meaning full-backs Glen Johnson and Erik Pieters were forced to fill in as makeshift centre halves as part of a back three.
This defensive frailty did not take long to prove costly for the Potters, as Alvaro Morata continued his red-hot start to life at Chelsea with a goal after just two minutes.
The former Real Madrid star went on to notch two more in a brilliant performance, while fellow Spaniard Pedro Rodriguez also got his name on the scoresheet.
However, it was the connection between Morata and another of his Spanish compatriots which had Blues fans abuzz post-game.
Two of Morata’s goals this afternoon were set up by Cesar Azpilicueta, giving rise to a remarkable statistic.
As revealed by Squawka:
Cesar Azpilicueta has recorded more assists (4) than any other defender in the Premier League this season.
