Brighton vs Cardiff betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Brighton vs Cardiff prediction: Brighton 1-0 Cardiff

A win for Brighton could go a very long way in securing their Premier League status, while defeat for the visitors would see them staring down the barrel of relegation.

Cardiff have won just two of their 16 matches on the road this season, and none of their previous three.

The Bluebirds will know that there’s no better time to travel to Brighton, who have lost their last two home matches by an aggregate score of 6-0.

Brighton vs Cardiff: Who will win?

Despite their heavy defeat at the weekend, Brighton are 10/11 favourites to win the match, while Cardiff are priced at 16/5. The draw can be backed at 23/10.

No side has scored fewer away goals than Cardiff (9) this season. Brighton to win while keeping a clean sheet is 4/1.

Only two teams have scored fewer goals at home this season than Brighton (17). Bet on under 2.5 goals at 4/7.

Glenn Murray has scored seven goals at home this season and will likely return to Brighton’s starting XI. Murray is 15/4 to open the scoring and 11/8 to score anytime.

Brighton vs Cardiff Premier League match preview

Brighton host Cardiff City at the Amex for a crucial Premier League relegation six-pointer on Tuesday night.

The match was originally scheduled for March 16 but had to be postponed due to Brighton’s FA Cup involvement.

Brighton moved down to 17th position on Saturday after being demolished 5-0 at home by Bournemouth. Brighton conceded four goals in the second half and finished the match with 10 men.

Speaking after the game Brighton boss Chris Hughton admitted that it was one of the poorest performances since his arrival at the club in 2014.

Brighton head into Tuesday’s match with two games in hand over most of the sides above them. A win for the Seagulls would see them move up one position in the table and, crucially, put them eight points above Cardiff.

Cardiff suffered a third consecutive defeat on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Burnley. Decisions have not gone Cardiff’s way recently and manager Neil Warnock will be hoping his side get a little luck on Tuesday.

A win for Cardiff would move them to within just two points of safety and blow the relegation battle wide open.

Cardiff won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in November – the only previous Premier League meeting between the sides.

Callum Paterson’s close-range header cancelled out Lewis Dunk’s 6th-minute opener. Dale Stephens was then shown a red card 10 minutes before the interval. The match looked to be heading for a draw before Sol Bamba struck a last-minute winner.

The last time Cardiff did a league double over Brighton was in the 1998/99 season when the two sides were in the fourth tier.

Brighton team news vs Cardiff

Chris Hughton may be tempted to make wholesale changes as a result of Saturday’s heavy defeat.

Glenn Murray will almost certainly start up front in place of  Florin Andone, while Alireza Jahanbakhsh could replace Jurgen Locadia out wide.

Anthony Knockaert will miss the game through suspension after his sending off against the Cherries.

Solly March is expected to be available following a calf strain and should replace the suspended Knockaert.

A late decision will be made on Pascal Gross who is recovering from a thigh injury.

Jose Izquierdo, Biraym Kayal and Gaetan Bong are further options for Hughton to consider.

Oumar Niasse could lead the line with Kenneth Zohore dropping to the bench.

Warnock is expected to name the same back four which started at Turf Moor. Joe Ralls and Leandro Bacuna provide backup options in midfield.

Sol Bamba will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his ACL in March. Callum Paterson will also miss Cardiff’s remaining fixtures after undergoing ankle surgery.

Jazz Richards may come back into contention after recovering from a thigh injury.

Alex Smithies has recovered from a knee injury but will need to build up his fitness with the U23s before being considered.

Matthew Connolly is another long-term absentee.

Full-back Joe Bennett is set to face his former side. Bennett made 41 league appearances for Brighton during a loan spell in the 2014/15 season.
