Brighton vs Arsenal: Score prediction & betting tips

Arsenal have not won either of their Premier League visits to the Amex, drawing 1-1 in December 2018 and losing 2-1 in March of that year.

Brighton also won 2-1 at Arsenal earlier this season; Dan Burn and Neal Maupay the scorers.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the visitor’s top scorer this season having netted 20 times in all competitions.

101 Great Goals predicts: Brighton 1-2 Arsenal

Premier League football is back but will the Amex be hosting top-flight fixtures next season too?

Obviously not helped by the three month break, but Brighton have not won a game in 2020 in any competition.

Before the break, Graham Potter’s side drew six and lost three of their previous nine which is, just about, keeping their heads above water.

The Seagulls have 29 points, two more than West Ham, Watford and Bournemouth.

Worryingly for Brighton, they still have to face Leicester, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City after this clash with Arsenal.

Also, since promotion in 2017, 67% of their 105 points have been won at home but, now with no crowd, home advantage could evaporate.

Will Albion get off to the perfect start with another good home result against Arsenal?

Can Arsenal bounce back?

Arsenal meanwhile returned to action on Wednesday night but in many ways they did not.

Mikel Arteta took his side to face his former employers Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Gunners, without creating anything going the other way, kept Man City at bay until first half stoppage time.

A Kevin De Bruyne through-ball really should have been dealt with by David Luiz but the ball ricocheted off the Brazilian’s thigh and straight to Raheem Sterling who smashed home.

David Luiz was at the centre of events once again just after half time, pulling over Riyad Mahrez in the area.

Penalty to Man City and David Luiz sent off.

He became the first Premier League player for five years to be directly at fault for a goal, give away a penalty and be sent off all in the same game.

De Bruyne converted the penalty and game over.

Phil Foden made it 3-0 late on meaning Arsenal have now lost seven in a row against Man City, conceding 20 and scoring just two.

Not the start Arsenal fans were hoping for by any stretch of the imagination.

They remain ninth in the table, five points behind Manchester United in fifth.

The Amex has also been a miserable hunting ground for them but it’s vital Arsenal bounce back and quickly.

Graham Potter has, almost, a fully fit squad of players to choose from and, despite two more games in the next ten days, he’ll surely go all out to win this one.

Mat Ryan will keep up his ever present status in goal.

In defence, Adam Webster is likely to continue alongside Lewis Dunk at Shane Duffy’s expense.

Dan Burn, at 6 ft 7 in (201 cm) is the Premier League’s tallest ever left-back and he’ll continue to occupy that position.

Martín Montoya will continue at right-back; Tariq Lamptey is still awaiting his debut after joining from Chelsea on 31 January.

In midfield, Yves Bissouma could get a start alongside regulars Pascal Groß, Davy Pröpper and Aaron Mooy.

That would leave one spot available out-wide and Leandro Trossard is likely to fill that position.

Solly March, Dale Stephens,  Steven Alzate, Alexis Mac Allister and Alireza Jahanbakhsh are the other options; José Izquierdo is the only squad member injured.

In attack, Neal Maupay is their top scorer with eight goals this season including one in the 2-1 win at Arsenal in December.

Glenn Murray and Aaron Connolly could both be useful off the bench.

Arsenal team news vs Brighton

LONDON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 21: Granit Xhaka and Héctor Bellerín of Arsenal react after the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC at Stamford Bridge on January 21, 2020 in London, United Kingdom. (Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty Images)

After a miserable, gruelling game at Man City on Wednesday night, Mikel Arteta has many selection headaches.

Bernd Leno made numerous saves once again in midweek, increasing his claim to be the club’s player of the year.

However, ahead of him, there could be a real problem in defence.

At full-back, the first-choice options Héctor Bellerín and Kieran Tierney started on Wednesday and may have to start again.

Sead Kolašinac was on the bench in Manchester and will be rotated in sooner rather than later.

However, they have a real problem at centre-back now.

David Luiz is suspended and may have played his last game for Arsenal and Pablo Marí is a major injury doubt.

So, Shkodran Mustafi will have to start once again and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who was not even on the bench on Wednesday, may have to be risked.

Rob Holding is an injury doubt and Calum Chambers is a long-term absentee.

In midfield, Granit Xhaka is unlikely to feature after he too got injured very early at City.

So, with Lucas Torreira out with a broken ankle, Matteo Guendouzi will be key.

Dani Ceballos will come in alongside the Frenchman.

Further forward, Mikel Arteta went with project youth on Wednesday, starting Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock.

Mesut Özil was not even in the squad which was a talking point to say the least.

Bukayo Saka is likely to keep his place on the right with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left.

Having not even come off the bench on Wednesday, Nicolas Pépé could be in line for a start.

Alexandre Lacazette could also lead the line after a midweek cameo; Gabriel Martinelli and Reiss Nelson are also options.

Will this make-shift Arsenal side beat Brighton?
