Brighton & Man United’s Juan Mata
According to the Mail on Sunday, Man United’s Juan Mata is a summer target for Brighton.
Brighton have had their Premier League survival confirmed over the weekend.
Crystal Palace gave their rivals a huge boost, beating Cardiff 3-2 on Saturday.
That defeat condemned Cardiff to relegation back to the Championship.
So could Brighton land Mata in the off-season?
Two year contract on offer
Mata, 31, is currently under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the season.
Man United have yet to agree a new long-term contract for the Spaniard.
However, the Red Devils are trying to extend Mata’s deal by another 12 months.
Against that backdrop, one assumes Brighton feel they could offer Mata a more enticing package to stay in the Premier League.
While Mata is unlikely to be a regular starter at Old Trafford if he stays on, he could play far more often for the Seagulls. The Mail on Sunday report:
Brighton want to offer Juan Mata a stay of execution in the Premier League as he gets set to leave Manchester United.
Chris Hughton is reportedly keen to keep him in the Premier League at Brighton (while) Valencia are believed to be interested in re-signing the former Spain international.

Where would Mata play in Brighton’s XI
The assumption is that Mata would be asked to play in either the number 10 role, or perhaps a more creative role deeper on the pitch.
Currently Pascal Gross fills much of that role for Brighton. The Seagulls also have other creative midfield assets including Solly March, Anthony Knockaert and Alireza Jahanbakhsh.
