Drinkwater’s time at Chelsea
Danny Drinkwater made the switch to Chelsea in August of 2017, after impressing for Leicester City.
Chelsea are believed to have paid around £35m for the English midfielder.
Despite his pretty big price-tag, though, Drinkwater has rather struggled for game time since moving to Stamford Bridge.
His debut season for Chelsea saw Drinkwater make 22 appearances across all competitions, only 12 of which came in the Premier League. Only five of those 12 games, meanwhile, were as a starter.
After Maurizio Sarri took over from Antonio Conte at Chelsea, Drinkwater found his playing time reduced even more dramatically.
During the 2018/19 campaign, the 29-year-old would feature just once.
That appearance was a 30-minute cameo in the 2018 Community Shield.
Brighton eyeing Drinkwater
With yet another new boss in charge at Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater may have been hoping for a few more opportunities.
Frank Lampard has played Drinkwater a couple of times during pre-season.
However, he was left out of the Blues’ final pre-season game on Saturday, as Chelsea drew 2-2 with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
Now, it looks as though Brighton are offering Drinkwater the chance to actually play this season.
According to the Mail, Graham Potter wants to add an anchor man in his midfield, with the Seagulls interested in taking Drinkwater on loan.
Drinkwater currently has three years left on his Chelsea deal, but with it unlikely that he will be a regular starter come the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Frank Lampard may be willing to let him leave on loan.
