Brentford fans show class with gesture for Arsenal’s returning Bukayo Saka

The meeting between Brentford and Arsenal this evening was lit up early in the 2nd-half, courtesy of a moment of class on the part of the former’s fanbase.

Canos on target

The Bees and Gunners are currently locked in action at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The clash marks the opening fixture of the new Premier League campaign, ahead of a highly-anticipated weekend no doubt set to prove equally drama and goal-filled.

And, if the early indications in West London are anything to go by, then a couple of shocks could too be on the cards in the English top-flight over the coming days.

This comes with Brentford, in the club’s first-ever outing in the Premier League, currently leading Arsenal by a goal to nil.

The evening’s solitary goal thus far was forthcoming inside 22 minutes, when a messy defensive sequence on the part of the visitors eventually culminated in Sergi Canos cutting inside from the left, to lash home at Bernd Leno’s near post:

Saka’s standing ovation

As outlined above, though, Canos’ opener has proven far from the only talking point amid an entertaining affair in the capital on Friday.

Elsewhere, early in the 2nd-half, the Brentford faithful showcased their class, upon Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka being introduced to the fray.

The occasion of course marks Saka’s first competitive appearance since his decisive Euro 2020 penalty shootout miss, which ultimately cost England a shot at glory, and sparked a barrage of horrific racial abuse being directed at Arsenal’s up-and-coming wide-man.

The significance of Saka’s return, in turn, was evidently not lost on those in attendance at the Brentford Community Stadium, with supporters both home and away having afforded the Gunners’ starlet a standing ovation, in a touching gesture of togetherness:
