Brendan Rodgers reveals what he said to Ben Chilwell in drinks break vs Watford

Watford 1 – Leicester 1

There was a frantic finish at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Watford drew 1-1 against Leicester.

Ben Chilwell lashed a stunner into the far top corner to fire the Foxes into the lead in the 89th minute.

However, an acrobatic overhead-kick from Craig Dawson in injury time earned Watford a point.

Leicester are 3rd in the league on 54 points, while Watford moved up to 16th on 28 points.

Brendan Rodgers reveals what he said to Ben Chilwell in drinks break vs Watford

One of the new features of football in Project Restart are two drinks breaks midway through each half.

On Friday night, during Man United’s 1-1 at Tottenham, Jose Mourinho appeared to use the break to coach his team.

United had started brightly, but the break seemed to derail their momentum. And shortly afterwards, Steven Bergwijn put Spurs 1-up.

After the Watford game, Brendan Rodgers revealed how he used the drinks break to help alter his team’s tactics against Watford.

Particularly, Rodgers believes his instructions lead to the opener from Chilwell. He said:

I expected him to shoot. We had said to him in the drinks break – he had an opportunity just before that… and he passed it wide – we said to him: shoot.

Sometimes they can break the flow, but, in this moment, it worked well for them.

It also gives you the chance to get on some tactical information and address some issues in the game.

A note on Ben Chilwell vs Watford

In his match report in the Times, reporter Gary Jacob made an interesting observation about Chilwell’s performance against Ismaila Sarr in the first half:

Sarr carried on where he left off before the break, when he had notched four goals and four assists in eight starts. The Watford winger was hugely encouraging, offering speed and threat.

He skinned Chilwell three times before the break, which might have been a concern for Chelsea, who want to sign the £75 million-rated left back next season.

What else did Brendan Rodgers say after Watford

Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Ricardo Pereira is likely to be available in October.

The Leicester manager also claimed he side came through the Watford game without any injuries.

The Foxes take on Brighton on Tuesday at the King Power Stadium.
