Brendan Rodgers provides updates on Vardy, Pereira & more ahead of Leicester vs Southampton
Leicester vs Southampton
Leicester return to Premier League action on Saturday evening.
The Foxes will head into the latest round of fixtures sitting 4th in the Premier League table, just a point adrift of 2nd placed Liverpool.
This comes with Brendan Rodgers’ side having remained unbeaten in their last four league outings.
Southampton, though, will nevertheless no doubt prove a tough test for Leicester.
The Saints have majorly overachieved to this point in the season, and look in with a genuine chance of securing a Europa League spot.
Leicester team news
In turn, ahead of tomorrow night’s cash, Brendan Rodgers held his latest press conference on Thursday.
During the presser, the Leicester boss provided a fitness update on his squad.
And, for the most part, the news proved pretty positive, with Rodgers having confirmed that Cengiz Under is back in contention, whilst Ricardo Pereira and Caglar Soyuncu are both also progressing well in their respective efforts to return to fitness:
“Cengo (Ünder) should be back with us this weekend, which is great news.
“Ricky Pereira, also, so that’s great for us. Probably a bit like Çağs (Çağlar Söyüncü), we just need to get him back step by step. He’s training with the team now and looking very good.”
Rodgers went on to confirm that both Jamie Vardy and James Maddison are available to face Southampton:
“Both those players are available. It wasn’t so much a rest. They couldn’t play, or if they did play, there was going to be a huge risk for them.
“They’ve had ongoing issues throughout the season unfortunately and that was a game where we saw a window to get some medical work done with them knowing we’ve got other players who can play.
“That’s worked well for us. They’ve re-joined the group so they’ll be available this weekend.”
