Brendan Rodgers explains why Fofana was brought off for Leicester vs West Brom

Leicester vs West Brom

Thursday’s only Premier League action saw Leicester saw and West Brom face off.

The Foxes headed into the tie aiming to put some distance between themselves and the remaining Champions League-chasing pack.

West Brom, meanwhile, needed all three points to keep their dwindling survival hopes alive.

When all was said and done at the King Power, though, it was the home outfit who emerged with a comfortable 3-0 win.

The game was over inside the first 36 minutes with Jamie Vardy, Jonny Evans and Kelechi Iheanacho all finding the net for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Rodgers on why Fofana was brought off vs West Brom

During Thursday’s tie, Rodgers did make one rather odd sub – bringing off Wesley Fofana just after the hour-mark.

The stopper has been in fine for this term and did not appear injured, making the decision seemingly quite odd.

However, Brendan Rodgers has since explained that Fofana was brought off due to him currently fasting as part of Ramadan:

“He’s a young player in the middle of Ramadan so hasn’t eaten. It’s remarkable to think of his performance at the weekend. To still perform to that level was incredible. He finds that strength to train and play. He’s a special talent and a big player for us.”
