Bournemouth vs Watford betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Bournemouth vs Watford prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Watford

Two entertaining sides meet on the south coast.

Bournemouth’s wretched form continued over Christmas and Eddie Howe’s side could really do with a win.

Watford meanwhile have been in good form over the festive period and will be looking to continue that here.

This should be a good game to watch.

Bournemouth vs Watford: Who will win?

Bournemouth, as the home side, are favourites at 6/4 to win.

Watford, who won this fixture last season, are 17/10 to repeat that win.

A draw is 5/2.

A draw and both teams to score is 3/1.

Over 2.5 goals is 8/11 and both teams to score is 8/15.

Watford to win and both teams to score is 7/2.

Callum Wilson is Bournemouth’s top scorer this season with ten. The England international is 9/2 to break the deadlock and 11/8 to get his eleventh of the season.

Gerard Deulofeu is in good form for Watford. The Spaniard is 7/1 to score first and 2/1 to net anytime.

Both Wilson and Deulofeu to score is 6/1.

Bournemouth vs Watford: Match preview

Despite making a superb start to the season, Bournemouth have been in terrible form since the start of November.

After 10 matches, they had 20 points and had only lost twice.

However, in their subsequent 10 matches, they’ve lost eight times and only won twice.

That run includes Boxing Day’s 5-0 hammering at Spurs and Sunday’s 4-1 demolition at Old Trafford.

However, they are still 13th in the table and a huge 11 points above the drop zone.

Also, the two wins they have mustered in that run have both come at home so will they add another here?

Will Watford win away at Bournemouth?

Watford meanwhile are in better form than their opponents.

They may only be 2 points better off but they’re 4 places higher in the table, highlighting how tight it is in the middle of the Premier League.

The Hornets too got off to a flier.

The 4-0 home defeat in the reverse fixture was just one of three loses they suffered in their first ten matches.

Then, just like Bournemouth, they struggled in November and early December, amassing just 2 points from their next 6.

However, back to back wins over Cardiff and West Ham brought some festive cheer to Hertfordshire.

They were beaten by Chelsea on Boxing Day and needed an 83rd minute equaliser by Abdoulaye Doucouré on Saturday to snatch a point from Newcastle.

Still, Javi Gracia will be delighted that they are ninth and, a win here, could take them even higher.

Eddie Howe’s side come into this match with a defensive injury crisis.

Asmir Begović has conceded 33 goals this season, the fourth most in the league, and that number could be set to rise again.

That’s because Bournemouth could be without 3 senior defenders.

Both right-backs, Simon Francis and Adam Smith, are out for extended periods of time so they may well look to reinforce that position this month.

Then, on Sunday, Dutch international Nathan Aké hobbled off at Old Trafford so is a major doubt for this game.

That leaves them with 3 left-backs and 1 centre-back.

Tyrone Mings may come into a makeshift defence.

Rookie Jack Simpson, who’s made just 8 appearances in 4 years, could also get a very rare start.

With few defensive options, wingers Ryan Fraser and Jordon Ibe could be deployed as wing-backs.

This won’t be too unfamiliar for them as Ibe played there on Sunday and Fraser has played that position for the Scotland national team.

Lewis Cook and Dan Gosling are also long term absentees.

Jefferson Lerma will also come into the team; he was left on the bench on Sunday as he was one booking away from a two match suspension.

Yellow cards have since been wiped.

David Brooks was outstanding in that match and could be given a free role in this 3-4-1-2 formation.

He was on the scoresheet at Vicarage Road earlier in the season; as was Callum Wilson and Josh King.

Can their firepower make up for the defensive frailties this side will surely have?

As for Watford, their formation and starters should be easier to predict.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster has played every minute so far this season; the only Watford player to do so.

Javi Gracia made 6 changes for the Newcastle match but most of those who were left out may well come back in.

José Cholevas is one of those; he’s likely to replace Adam Masina at left-back.

However, Daryl Janmaat’s good performance could see him retain his place at right-back ahead of Kiko Femenía.

Christian Kabasele, who was sent off in this fixture in October, is a doubt at centre-back so Adrian Mariappa could keep his place.

Abdoulaye Doucouré scored his third goal in six off the bench on Saturday.

The Frenchman will come in for Domingos Quina to partner Étienne Capoue.

Will Hughes came back into the side after a spell out with a hip injury and will start ahead of Ken Sema.

Up front, Troy Deeney is likely to come in for Isaac Success.

Can Watford take advantage of Bournemouth’s lengthy injury list?
