Bournemouth vs Sheffield United: Match preview
After another solid campaign last season, Bournemouth will be aiming for more mid-table security.
The Cherries ended 2018/19 in 14th place on 45 points to secure a fifth consecutive top flight season.
That is quite a remarkable achievement for a club of their size.
Eddie Howe’s side won eight times at home last season compared to just five times on the road.
He’ll be hoping to get off to a winning start here.
Sheffield United back in the big time
As for Sheffield United, they have one aim and one aim only this season.
Last season, the Blades massively upset the odds to gain promotion.
Chris Wilder’s men finished second in the Championship, six points above third placed Leeds.
That means they are back in the big time for the first time in 13 seasons after suffering a heartbreaking final day relegation in 2007.
This is a side who had the joint-best defensive record in the second tier last season, conceding just 41 goals in 46 league matches.
They are everyone’s favourites to go down but will they get off to the ideal start?
Bournemouth team news vs Sheffield United
Bournemouth have been busy in the transfer market this summer and are expected to give debuts to four players.
After starting the last two matches of last season, 20 year old Mark Travers is expected to be given the number one shirt this season.
That’s despite the presence of the far more experienced Artur Boruc and Asmir Begović.
In defence, they’re likely to name two new full-backs.
Lloyd Kelly and Jack Stacey joined the club this summer from Bristol City and Luton Town respectively.
Nathan Aké was linked with a move away over the off-season but is still at the club and will be key at the back.
In midfield there’s another new face; Philip Billing has joined from Huddersfield.
Out-wide, David Brooks got injured during pre-season so will not play for a couple of months.
That does mean Harry Wilson, on loan from Liverpool, will make his Bournemouth debut.
He’s one of three members of this squad who have joined from Liverpool.
Another, Dominic Solanke, will be a key player this season but is expected to start it on the bench.
Callum Wilson and Josh King will lead the line.
Can they fire Bournemouth to an opening day win?
Sheffield United team news vs Bournemouth
As for Sheffield United, just five members of their squad have any Premier League experience.
They’re going to have to learn and learn fast.
In goal, Dean Henderson will continue as the number one.
He was on loan from Manchester United last season and they’ve managed to extend his loan by another year.
Throughout the entirety of last season, they played 3-4-1-2 and there is no reason for that to change.
Phil Jagielka has rejoined the club this summer, 12 years after leaving for Everton.
In front of him, John Fleck and Oliver Norwood will continue their midfield partnership.
Amazingly, the latter has been apart of a side who has gained promotion to the Premier League in each of the last three seasons.
Further forward, Luke Freeman is expected to start after joining from QPR for around £5 million.
Ravel Morrison, who’s joined from Östersunds FK, will have to wait for his debut.
Up front, club record signing Oli McBurnie will make his debut alongside Billy Sharp who is the club’s record all-time goalscorer with 175.
New signings Callum Robinson and Lys Mousset (who’s signed from Bournemouth) will be left in reserve.
Can this side cause an opening day upset?
