Bournemouth vs Manchester City betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Bournemouth vs Man City prediction: Bournemouth 0-4 Man City

After an extraordinary game at the Etihad, Manchester City need to get back to winning ways.

Pep Guardiola’s side have looked imperious in their two games so far but, amazingly, have a mere four points on the board.

Will they get a win here?

Bournemouth meanwhile also have four points to their name after victory last weekend.

It’s been a very solid start to the season for Bournemouth.

So far, Eddie Howe’s side have met two newly promoted clubs, starting with Sheffield United on the opening day.

In that one, Chris Mepham fired the Cherries in front just after the hour mark; his first goal for the club.

However, in the 88th minute, Sheffield United snatched an equaliser so 1-1 it finished.

Then, last weekend, Bournemouth travelled to a packed to the rafters Villa Park.

They could hardly have started any better.

Josh King converted a penalty in just the second minute of the game after a foul by the Villa goalkeeper.

That was the earliest spot-kick scored in the Premier League since February 2015; that was a goal by Sergio Agüero who they’ll be facing in this one.

Just ten minutes later it was 2-0; Harry Wilson latched onto a lose ball and curled home his first goal for the club.

Aston Villa did rally in the second half but Bournemouth held on for a 2-1 away win.

Four points from two games represents a solid start for the south coast club so can they build on that and shock the champions?

Man City celebrate

As for Manchester City, how they did not win last weekend no one will ever know.

Last time out, the Citizens took the lead twice at home to Spurs; Sterling and Agüero with the goals.

Incidentally, Sergio Agüero has now scored 97 goals at the Etihad Stadium; only two players in Premier League history have scored more goals at one single venue.

But, Tottenham hit back and equalised in the 56th minute.

Then, in the third minute of added on time, Gabriel Jesus thought he’d won it with a curling effort from close-range.

But, after long VAR review, it was adjudged that Aymeric Laporte had handled the ball in the build-up.

No goal and 2-2 it finished which, statistically speaking, is a remarkable outcome.

Manchester City’s XG was 3 compared to Tottenham’s which was a mere 0.22, giving a differential of 2.78.

That is the biggest positive XG differential by a Premier League team without winning since Crystal Palace’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in December 2017 (+3.44).

So, that proves, despite the fact they don’t have maximum points, this team are playing at the top of their game.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping for a similar outcome to that of their only Premier League away game so far.

A fortnight ago, Raheem Sterling netted a hat-trick as they won 5-0 at the London Stadium against West Ham.

Another big Manchester City win is likely to be on the cards here.

Even at this early stage, Bournemouth are without six first-team players through injury.

One position Eddie Howe does have options though is in goal.

21-year-old Aaron Ramsdale has started both league matches so far and there is no sign of that changing.

That’s despite the presence of Asmir Begović, Artur Boruc and Mark Travers who all played at times last season, unlike the current number one.

Last weekend, Howe reverted to a 4-4-2 and is expected to stick with that for this one.

Nathan Aké and Steve Cook are the first choice centre-backs with Chris Mepham on the bench.

Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly are injured so it’ll be Charlie Daniels and Adam Smith at full-back.

In midfield, new signing Philip Billing and Jefferson Lerma could be in for a tough afternoon.

Dan Gosling, Lewis Cook, David Brooks and Junior Stanislas are all currently sidelined.

Harry Wilson scored his first goal for the club last weekend and will start once more.

Since the start of last season, the Welshman has scored ten goals from outside the penalty area, the most of any player in the top four tiers of English football.

They could do with another one in this game.

Up front, Josh King and Callum Wilson will continue their partnership.

Can they fire their side to a famous win?

Since their first meeting in 1987, Manchester City have won 12 and drawn 2 against Bournemouth.

The Cherries last picked up a point against the Citizens in 1999 and that stat does not look likely to change.

As for Manchester City, they’re expected to make just the one change from last weekend.

Ederson will continue as ever in goal; he’s kept 38 clean sheets in just 76 Premier League appearances.

It’ll be the same defence as in the previous two matches.

Last weekend’s draw ended Oleksandr Zinchenko’s remarkable winning run in the Premier League.

Prior to the Tottenham game, the Ukrainian international had won all 23 Premier League game in which he’d played.

He’ll continue at left-back; João Cancelo is still awaiting his debut.

In midfield, İlkay Gündoğan will drop out to allow David Silva to come back into the team.

New summer signing Rodri will continue to anchor the midfield with Fernandinho once again left out.

Further forward, even without Leroy Sané, they possess a plethora of attacking talent.

Kevin De Bruyne leads the way in terms of assists this season with three already.

That’s more than the two he managed in the entirety of last season although his campaign was plagued by injuries.

Raheem Sterling is also a man in form and is the Premier League’s joint-top goalscorer.

Also, he has scored in four consecutive club appearances in all competitions for the first time in his professional career, netting seven times in those four games.

Up front, despite his discussion on the sideline with his manager last weekend, Sergio Agüero is likely to keep his place ahead of Gabriel Jesus.

This team should blow Bournemouth away.
