Can Bournemouth climb out of trouble?

Last weekend, they travelled to Anfield to take on the run away league-leaders Liverpool.

A daunting prospect but, against all the odds, in the ninth minute, Jefferson Lerma’s low cross was tapped in by Callum Wilson.

That was the first goal Bournemouth have scored against Liverpool since April 2017, ending a run of 17 consecutive goals scored by the Reds against them.

However, Eddie Howe’s side could not hold on for their first ever win on Merseyside.

Liverpool struck twice in nine second half minutes to secure a 2-1 victory.

That means Bournemouth have slipped back into the relegation zone having taken just one point from their last four games.

In fact, they’ve won just four of their last 23 Premier League games, dating back to 20 September.

This is their fifth consecutive top-flight season but, if form does not improve, that run will come to an end.

Will Bournemouth get a victory that would propel them out of the danger zone?

Will Crystal Palace win again?

As for Crystal Palace, this is their seventh consecutive season in the top-flight and they’re on the verge of securing number eight.

Last weekend, they hosted one of the two sides below Bournemouth as Watford travelled down to South London.

Jordan Ayew scored the only goal of the game, firing into the top-corner from the edge of the box.

That was the Ghanian’s 24th Premier League goal, and the earliest he has ever scored.

In fact, this is just his second first-half goal.

In the context of this season, that made it three consecutive 1-0 win for Roy Hodgson’s side.

The two Saturday’s before, they’d beaten Newcastle 1-0 at home and then defeated Brighton & Hove Albion in the M23 derby.

In that time, the Eagles have soared from 14th to 11th and now have 39 points, 12 more than their hosts.

Given that they’re now safe, will they secure more points with the weight lifted off their shoulders?

Bournemouth team news vs Crystal Palace

Eddie Howe during the Premier League match between Manchester City and AFC Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium on December 23, 2017 in Manchester, England.

Despite their perilous predicament, Bournemouth’s last two displays against Chelsea and Liverpool have been encouraging.

Thus, Eddie Howe is once again unlikely to make too many changes.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who’s played all but one of their games this season, had been one of their most impressive performers.

There will have to be a chance in front of him though.

At Anfield, Steve Cook came off with an injury so is a major doubt.

He joins fellow defenders Charlie Daniels and Chris Mepham in the treatment room.

So, just as he did at Liverpool, Jack Simpson will come in at centre-back.

The 23 year old has made just 23 appearances for Bournemouth since his debut on 24 October 2017.

The rest of the defence will be unchanged with Jack Stacey at right-back and Nathan Aké the other centre-back.

Adam Smith is likely to keep his place ahead of Diego Rico on the left.

In central midfield, it’s always been Philip Billing, Jefferson Lerma and one other.

Lewis Cook got the nod at Anfield and could keep his place ahead of Andy Surman and Dan Gosling.

Out-wide, Junior Stanislas was bright in his first start of 2020 last weekend.

He’s likely to drop out though with Harry Wilson returning; he was ineligible to play against his parent club.

Ryan Fraser will be on the other flank.

Up top, Callum Wilson will be looking to add to his nine goals this season.

Josh King and Arnaut Groeneveld are doubts so Dominic Solanke and Sam Surridge will be the attacking options off the bench.

Will this XI secure a massive win for Bournemouth?

As for Crystal Palace, it’s likely to be a case of don’t change a winning formulae for Roy Hodgson.

Vicente Guaita will continue in goal; only three Premier League goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than his nine.

In defence, since James Tomkins picked up a hamstring injured, Scott Dann has done an excellent job of being Gary Cahill’s partner.

At full-back, Joel Ward and Patrick van Aanholt will keep their places over Martin Kelly and Jeffrey Schlupp.

The latter scored the only goal when these two met at Selhurst Park in early December.

Mamadou Sakho, who was sent off in that game, is close to returning from a hamstring problem.

In midfield, captain Luka Milivojević can’t get back into the XI right now.

That’s because Cheikhou Kouyaté, James McCarthy and James McArthur have formed a formidable trio in the last three games.

Max Meyer and Jaïro Riedewald will also be on the bench.

Further forward, Andros Townsend is back from injury but will only be a substitute.

That’s because Wilfried Zaha and top-scorer Jordan Ayew will continue to flank Christian Benteke.

The Belgian’s performances have improved in recent weeks although he has his the woodwork (3) more times than he’s scored this season (1).

Cenk Tosun has returned to Everton after suffering a season ending anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Will this XI make it four Premier League wins in a row for Palace for the first time since 1 April 2017?
