Dortmund Out

As the world of football continues to be rocked by the news around the proposed new European Super League, the absence of the German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, as well as PSG, has been questioned.

Earlier this morning El Mundo in Spain reported that the European giants were likely to join, but such is the pace at which this story is moving, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed neither they nor Bayern Munich will not be joining the European Super League.

Borussia Dortmund’s Chief Executive Hans Joachim Watzke said;

“The board members of the European Club Association (ECA) came together for a virtual meeting on Sunday evening, where it was agreed that the board’s decision from last Friday still stands.”

“This decision dictated that all clubs wish to implement the proposed reforms to the UEFA Champions League. The ECA board members took a clear stance in rejecting plans for the establishment of a Super League.”

“Both German clubs on the ECA Board, FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, shared exactly the same stance throughout all discussions.”

Grotesque Concept

Clubs are starting to come out expressing their dismay at the proposed changes to the game they have been a part of for decades if not over a hundred years.

Aston Villa’s CEO Christian Purslow has spoken out about the proposals.

“The scheme is designed to take away that uncertainty (relegation) and to give predictability to their businesses so that if they’re badly managed or have a poor year, they’re still in the premier tournament.”

“Does that sound like sport or football to you? To me it sounds like a grotesque concept.
