Borussia Dortmund chief definitively rules out Jadon Sancho exit

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has this morning spoken out over the future of Jadon Sancho.

Sancho’s meteoric rise

19-year-old winger Sancho has been one of the talking points of European football this season.

The English youngster, who made the move to Borussia Dortmund from Man City in the summer of 2017 for £8 million, has built on the potential that he showcased at the Westfalenstadion last season with a string of sensational displays to this point in the current campaign.

The pace, trickery, eye for goal and overall flair possessed by Sancho have seen him rise from relative unknown this time last year to one of world football’s most highly-regarded young players.

All told, thus far this season, the blistering wide-man has racked up 9 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

In addition, he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Month for October, and has already been handed 4 senior caps by England, despite having only turned 19 last month.

As such, Sancho’s stellar form in Germany has inevitably seen the teen linked with a potential return to the Premier League.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been named as expressing an interest in the Dortmund starlet, with suggestions having also circulated that Sancho could make a surprise return to the Etihad with Man City.

‘Jadon plays in the next season for BVB’

But, if the board at the Westfalenstadion get their way, then Dortmund’s crown jewel will be going absolutely nowhere, at least not this summer.

Speaking in an interview with EuroSport Germany earlier today, BVB chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke definitively ruled out a potential transfer for Sancho come the end of the season, explaining:

‘We will not sell him. That is fact. It is clearly discussed with every person who is involved that Jadon plays in the next season for BVB.’

Watze continued:

‘His progress is brilliant.’

‘For his age he plays extremely remarkable because he does things you cannot plan like this. But we have to be careful that we do not trigger the hype. This boy just turned 19 years old.’

‘He is not allowed to lose a millimetre of focus because for the top players every thousandth counts.’

‘Cristiano Ronaldo has not been at the top of the world for many years because of his talent, but because of his focus no one else has.’

‘If Jadon proves that in the next few years, we can talk about a world career as well. At this time, we can only speak about his huge potential.’
