Bohemians 1 – Chelsea 1

Frank Lampard’s managerial reign at Chelsea is underway.

This was Chelsea’s first pre-season fixture of the summer.

The Blues took an eighth-minute lead through Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi.

Lampard Out starts trending

Following Chelsea’s draw, the hashtag #LampardOut started trending on Twitter.

Indeed, the hashtag was still in Twitter’s top trends on Thursday morning.

Some of the online reaction to #LampardOut is below.

Chelsea’s fringe players

Prior to Wednesday’s match, it had been reported that Lampard would give opportunities to fringe players at Stamford Bridge to show what they can do.

Against Bohemians, those predictions proved true.

Danny Drinkwater, Michy Batshuayi and Kenedy all started the match, while Kurt Zouma and Tiemoue Bakayoko came on in the second-half.

For the record, Batshuayi has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, Everton are chasing Zouma’s signature, and Bakayoko is reportedly a Man United target.

Chelsea’s youth players

As everyone knows, Chelsea are currently banned from signing players for the next two windows.

That’s left many to predict that Chelsea will finally dip into their vast youth setup in 2019-20.

Several youngsters got their opportunities to impress in Dublin on Wednesday.

Ethan Ampadu, Marc Guehi, Kasey Palmer, Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Ike Ugbo all had run-outs in midweek.

Chelsea’s system under Lampard

On the basis of one game, it seems like Chelsea’s system is about to change.

Maurizio Sarri relied on a 4-3-3 formation for the majority of his time with the Blues.

However, Lampard preferred a 4-2-3-1 formation in his first match.
