Argentinian giants Boca Juniors have this afternoon handed Chelsea a boost on the transfer front, as the Blues continue to work towards a deal for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.
Barella, a gifted Italian international, came up through the youth ranks of Serie A outfit Cagliari, before breaking into the club’s first team setup on a consistent basis during the 2016/17 campaign.
And the 21-year-old has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded youngsters in Italy.
Barella combines all of the key attributes of a modern-day midfielder, with the former Como loanee equally comfortable controlling the tempo of a clash through his wide-ranging of passing as he is breaking up the attacks of opposing sides with a crunching challenge.
Perfectly summing up the all-action stylings of the Cagliari star were his haul of 6 goals, to go along with 13 yellow cards and 1 red in Serie A last season.
And Barella’s impressive performances in his home country have since seen the 4-time capped Italian international heavily-linked with a move away from Sardinia this month.
Premier League giants Chelsea have been the club most persistently-touted as a potential destination for the 21-year-old.
Blues’ midfielder Cesc Fabregas is expected to join Ligue 1 outfit Monaco imminently.
As such, Barella is viewed as the ideal replacement for the Spaniard by Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, with the capital giants reportedly ready to splash out up to £45 million on his signature.
And a significant update on Cagliari’s activity on the transfer market this afternoon looks to have inched Chelsea a step closer to securing Barella’s signature.
The Serie A outfit have had a bid for Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez accepted by the Argentine giants.
Speaking in an interview with Radio La Red earlier today, Boca president Daniel Angelici revealed:
‘We have accepted Cagliari’s offer for Nandez because we spoke to the player and he wants to go to Italy.’
‘What we do not accept is the form of payment and that is what we are working on.’
‘It will be up to the Italian club to make the effort. At the moment the first instalment of the offer is not enough to pay taxes.’
Nandez is reportedly viewed as Barella’s logical replacement by the Cagliari board, making a Stamford Bridge switch for the latter closer than ever to completion.
Possible significant news on #cfc‘s bid to sign #Barella. Boca Juniors have accepted a bid from Cagliari for midfielder Nahitan Nandez. Serie A club didn’t want to lose Barella now but Nandez could be his replacement.
