Birmingham midfielder misses out on Derby move following signature cock-up

According to a report from Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports, Maikel Kieftenbeld’s move from Birmingham City to Derby County fell through due to a mistake made by the player when signing his contract with the Rams.

St. Andrew’s regular

Kieftenbeld, a 27-year-old holding midfielder and former Dutch youth international, joined Birmingham from Eredivisie outfit Groningen in 2015.

He has since gone on to solidify himself as a mainstay for the Blues, racking up 84 Championship appearances over the past two seasons.

Twist in the tale

Despite being highly-regarded by both fans and staff alike at St. Andrew’s outfit, however, reports broke on the final day of the transfer window last week that fellow Championship outfit Derby County had secured an agreement for Kieftenbeld, who would sign his contracts with the Rams from his home country of Holland, where he was situated at the time of the deal being agreed.

However, in an incredible twist, it has today been revealed that, after a week of waiting, Kieftenbeld’s move has fallen through, due to a mistake made by the player himself.
