Gilmour promoted to Chelsea’s senior squad
Since Frank Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss, many of the Blues’ academy products have been handed a more prominent role in the senior squad.
The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James have all been pivotal in Chelsea’s first-team this term.
18-year-old Billy Gilmour has also benefited from the appointment of Lampard.
The central midfielder was handed his first-team debut in August of 2019, coming off the bench for six minutes as Chelsea drew 2-2 with Sheffield United.
Gilmour has since garnered four senior Chelsea appearances, playing the full 90 minutes as the London outfit smashed Grimsby Town 7-1 in the League Cup 3rd round.
And Lampard clearly likes what he sees with the Scotland under-21 international, as Chelsea have confirmed on Tuesday that Gilmour will be a part of the club’s senior squad going forward.

Gilmour on being promoted to Chelsea’s senior side
Gilmour has also spoken about moving up to Chelsea’s senior side, labeling it a massive moment:
“It’s a massive moment for me and I’m really happy.
“I went with the squad to Leicester and even though I wasn’t involved, the gaffer pulled me afterwards to tell me that after the winter break I’d be with the first-team permanently.
“It’s a dream come true for me. It’s the first big step I think, moving into the first team dressing room at a club like Chelsea. It’s massive for me.
“Knowing that the manager has such faith in you is massive, it gives me so much confidence when I step onto the field.
“It’s really good knowing that he trusts in you and likes the way you play, and I think that’s the same for everyone here.
“Age isn’t really an issue here. The gaffer has shown that if you work hard and perform well, then you will get opportunities. Hopefully I can keep pushing on and work hard every day in training.” As quoted by Chelsea’s official website.
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Chelsea’s next clash could play a huge part in determining if they earn Champions League qualification for next season.
Lampard’s side will welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Monday the 17th of February.
Chelsea are currently 4th in the league, with Man United six points adrift of them.
The London outfit also have a number of other clubs hot on their heels in the race for 4th spot, with newly-promoted Sheffield United just two points behind them.
