‘Best in the world’: Bernardo Silva claim spreads following Man City’s drubbing of Brighton

Major claims surrounding the form of Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva have spread online this evening, on the back of the Portuguese’s performance versus Brighton & Hove Albion.

Foden at the double

Silva and co. of course returned to action a short time ago.

On the back of successive wins over Burnley and Club Brugge over the course of the last week, the Sky Blues made the trip to the south coast eyeing another 3-point haul, this time against Brighton.

And, when all was said and done at the Amex, emerge victorious is precisely what City managed.

A dominant opening half hour proved decisive on the day, as Ilkay Gundogan’s opener was added to by a Phil Foden brace to kill off any hope of a Brighton share of the spoils.

The hosts did manage to pull one back inside the closing ten minutes courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister, but City’s 3-goal advantage was restored on the stroke of full-time, when substitute Riyad Mahrez slotted home in confident fashion from close range.

Instead, this honour has been reserved for the aforementioned Bernardo Silva.

Portuguese international Silva was at his imperious best once again throughout the 90 minutes versus Brighton, gliding by the hosts’ stars with ease, picking out the right pass at the right time, and contributing defensively, too, courtesy of a stellar blend of hard work and willingness in the tackle.

And such efforts, in turn, have since given rise to major claims across social media.

Owing to his scintillating form not only this evening, but across the season to date, suggestions have begun to mount that Silva, at present, stands as the best midfielder in world football:
