As per a report from Lee Clayton of the Daily Mail, in-demand free-agent Bernard is on the verge of signing for Premier League outfit Everton.
Bernard, a gifted 25-year-old winger, had been on the books of Shakhtar Donetsk since 2013, when he made the move to Europe from Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro as a highly sought-after youngster.
He since went on to establish himself a key contributor for the Ukrainian champions, racking up 14 goals and 24 assists in just under 100 league outings for Shakhtar.
In addition, Bernard has managed up appearances for Brazil over the course of his career to date, with his showings for the Selecao and Shakhtar having led to a number of top European clubs expressing an interest in his services.
In the past, all of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and more have been linked with moves for Bernard, though interest in his signature went surprisingly quiet following the opening of the transfer market back in June, despite the fact that the South American is now a free agent following the expiration of his Skahktar Donetsk contract.
A report from Italian journalist Andersinho Marques last month insisted that Bernard would be plying his trade in the Premier League next season, with Chelsea rumoured to have overtaken the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton in the race for his signature.
San Siro bound?
However, after claims began to emerge in the Italian media over the last week that AC Milan had joined the fray for the winger, Marques provided a further update last Thursday, confirming that the Rossoneri had in fact moved into pole position to secure a deal:
Il giocatore e l’agente sono molto ottimisti per l’arrivo al #Milan, in attesa solo di una risposta di Leonardo.
È il sogno del giocatore e di suo padre sin da bambino.
Il #Chelsea ha fissato il suo ultimatum a martedì.
Non c’è alcuna offerta dell’Inter.

But, after further updates in England in the days since suggested that West Ham were posing a serious threat to Milan for Bernard’s signature, a breaking report from the Daily Mail’s Lee Clayton this evening has revealed that a surprise contender are now on the verge of clinching a deal for the winger.
The club in question are Everton, who, subject to a work permit, are said to be all set to sign Bernard imminently:
Breaking: Benard to sign for Everton subject to a work permit. More on @MailSport to follow … West Ham interest had cooled, Chelsea came late but Marco Silva sealed the deal.
