As per a report from A Bola, Benfica have opened negotiations over the signing of Liverpool outcast Alberto Moreno.
Robertson ousts Moreno
Spanish stopper Moreno lost his place in Liverpool’s starting XI last season, following the rise to prominence of fellow left-back Andy Robertson.
The latter’s incredible engine, wand of a left foot and, most importantly, defensive solidity have since seen Robertson develop into of the Premier League’s finest full-backs.
As such, Moreno, widely-recognised for his lack of positional awareness and penchant for high-profile mistakes, has found himself largely left out in the cold this season.
To this point in the campaign, the Spaniard has managed just 5 appearances across all competitions. In addition, just 2 of these showings have come in the Premier League, during busy periods when Jurgen Klopp has been forced to rest first-choice Robertson.
As such, Moreno appears all-set to depart Anfield come the end of the season, having not been offered an extension to his current deal, which is set to expire in the summer.
And, as per the aforementioned report from A Bola, one club keen on the Spaniard’s signature are Portuguese powerhouse Benfica.
The Eagles are said to be strongly-considering parting ways with the highly-regarded Alex Grimaldo this summer.
As such, Moreno is viewed as the ideal replacement, with negotiations already underway to coax the Liverpool stopper to the Estadio du Luz on a free transfer.

Sevilla and, somewhat surprisingly, Barcelona, have also been named as clubs interested in Moreno’s signature.
