Barcelona’s Messi admits he would have liked Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Real Madrid

For the past decade or so, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated the world footballing stage.

Barring Luka Modric in 2018, Messi and Ronaldo have laid claim to every Ballon d’Or trophy since 2008.

The pair have shone in Europe, with Messi picking up four Champions Leagues with Barcelona. Ronaldo, meanwhile, earned five across his spells with Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The duo were also the two top stars in La Liga for many years, going head-to-head, Real Madrid vs Barcelona, Ronaldo vs Messi.

However, Ronaldo has since swapped Spain for Italy, moving to Juventus in the summer of 2018.

Now, in a recent interview, Lionel Messi spoke about Ronaldo, stating how he would have liked him to continue with Real Madrid:

“I would have liked him to continue in Madrid, he gave a plus to the rivalry and the Classic.” As quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

In the same interview, Messi was also asked about a number of other topics, including the best coach of his career, to which the Argentine responded:

“I think Guardiola and Luis Enrique very close.”

Messi continued the praise for Pep Guardiola when asked about the best moment of his career:

“It’s hard to choose one because I was lucky enough to live many, but I think Guardiola’s era was one of the best moments of mine as a player and as everything.” As quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
