Barcelona’s injury woes mount once more as update surfaces on midfield star

An altogether concerning update on the fitness of Barcelona midfielder Pedri has come to the fore on Monday evening.

De Jong amongst fresh concerns

The topic of injuries has of course taken centre stage at the Camp Nou over recent weeks.

This comes with Ronald Koeman’s men, amid an underwhelming start to the campaign, having seen their spirits further dampened by a series of blows on the personnel front.

The likes of Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Martin Braithwaite, Jordi Alba and Ousmane Dembele have already been forced to sit out considerable spells of action.

And, last night, on the back of another damaging defeat in an El Clasico showdown with Real Madrid, the Blaugrana’s woes only deepened.

First, word was forthcoming post-match that Frenkie de Jong had played through the pain barrier, with a hamstring issue, in turn, likely to force him out of Wednesday’s La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano.

Not only that, but Ansu Fati has too emerged as an early concern ahead of two fixtures in the coming five days, owing to an ongoing knee problem.

Pedri latest

And, as outlined above, on Monday, the situation on the treatment table in the Catalan capital has continued to worsen.

This comes on the back of an update surfacing on the wellbeing of midfield starlet Pedri.

Pedri has not featured for Barcelona since late last month, after suffering a recurrence of a quad injury during a Champions League meeting with Benfica.

The Spanish international was understood to be inching closer to a return, though, amid hopes that Pedri could yet hand Ronald Koeman and co. a boost ahead of the upcoming international break.

But such a development now appears completely out of the question.

As per a report from Diario AS, after undergoing fresh tests on Monday, it was revealed that the 18-year-old’s quad remains ‘very tender’.

In turn, though the problem is not viewed as a full ‘relapse’ as such, Pedri has taken ‘an obvious step back’ in his rehabilitation.

As a result, a new comeback date of the 20th of November, on which the Blaugrana are scheduled to take on Espanyol in a derby clash, has been pencilled in for the midfielder.
