Barcelona’s Gerard Pique claims Sergio Ramos should’ve seen red in El Clasico

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed his opinion that Real Madrid counterpart Sergio Ramos should have been given his marching orders during last night’s El Clasico.

Spanish football’s two biggest clubs renewed their rivalry in the first-leg of their Copa Del Rey semi-final tie at the Camp Nou last night.

The clash came as the first of 3 meetings set to take place between Barcelona and Real over the space of 25 days.

After going head-to-head in the 2nd-leg of their Copa tie on the 27th, Barca will then travel to the Bernabeu for a La Liga matchup on the 2nd of March.

Last night’s matchup in Catalunya, meanwhile, eventually played out in a thrilling 1-1 draw.

Speaking to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s stalemate, Barcelona stopper Gerard Pique was asked for his take on proceedings in Catalunya, with the veteran having revealed his opinion that Real counterpart Sergio Ramos should have been sent for an early bath last night:

‘He [referee Mateu Lahoz] had a strange criterion. We had to play and adapt. In general, he had a good match.’

‘[However] It was a red card for Sergio, but what can we do?’

Ramos was booked in the 10th-minute of the clash, before second-half exchanges with Arthur and Luis Suarez saw the Spaniard walk the disciplinary tightrope in avoiding a second yellow.
