Champions League preview: Barcelona vs Tottenham

Barcelona’s run of four consecutive wins will not fill Tottenham with a huge amount of confidence as they arrive in Spain.

The Catalan giants comfortably brushed aside rivals Espanyol on Saturday with Lionel Messi bagging a brace.

The Argentine netted two superb free-kicks reminding Mauricio Pochettino’s side just what he is capable of doing.

However, with qualification already secured, Messi may use Tuesday’s clash as a chance to rest, along with a number of other Barca stars.

Tottenham’s Champions League turnaround

After failing to win any of their first three games in the competition, Tottenham looked certain to crash out of the Champions League.

However, after picking up seven points from their last three, Spurs find themselves controlling their own destiny heading into the final game.

With Inter hosting PSV, the North London club need to match the Italian side’s result from the San Siro.

Despite Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen being rested ahead of Tuesday, Tottenham overcame Leicester City on Saturday.

Meanwhile, for Pochettino, Tuesday’s clash represents his return to Catalunya for competitive action for the first time since 2012.

The 46-year-old masterminded Espanyol’s first win at the Nou Camp in 27 years, as well as claiming a point there during his first game as a manager.

A win on Tuesday for Spurs would be the first defeat Barca have suffered in the Champions League group-stage at the Nou Camp since Rubin Kazan in 2009.
