Barcelona vs Lyon betting tips: UEFA Champions League last 16 preview & predictions

Barcelona vs Lyon prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Lyon

First leg score: Olympique Lyonnais 0-0 Barcelona

After a goalless first leg at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, this tie is in the balance.

Neither side has lost a match in this season’s competition so far.

However, someone will be out come full time here.

Will Barcelona keep alive their European dreams or will Lyon cause a huge upset?

Barcelona vs Olympique Lyonnais: Who will win?

Barça are big favourites at 2/9 to win this match.

Lyon are 10/1 to become the first team to win in Europe at Camp Nou since 2013.

A score draw would do for the French side and that is 13/2.

Barcelona are 1/6 to qualify: Lyon are 7/2 to progress.

Only one Champions League tie has ever been goalless after 210 minutes and gone to penalties.

This tie is 95/1 to repeat that.

Over 2.5 goals is 2/5 with both teams to score 5/6.

Barcelona to win and both teams to score is 6/4.

Ousmane Dembele

Lionel Messi remains the main man for Barcelona. He’s 15/8 to score first and 2/5 to get his 35th goal of the season.

French World Cup winner Ousmane Dembélé has been in fine form this season. He’s 9/2 to score first and 7/5 to score anytime.

Lyon have an in form French Dembélé of their own. Moussa. He’s 11/1 to score first and 10/3 to net in 90 minutes.

Both Dembélés to score is 12/1.

Both Messi and Luis Suárez to score is 15/8.

Both Messi and Ousmane Dembélé to score is 11/4.

Both Moussa Dembélé and Bertrand Traoré to score is 23/1.

Barcelona vs Olympique Lyonnais: Match preview

A third treble in 10 years for Barcelona?

It looks on.

At the weekend, the Catalan giants came from behind to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-1.

They remain 7 points clear of Atlético Madrid and on the cusp of retaining their title.

They’re also in the Copa del Rey final where they will be big favourites to beat Valencia in May.

That just leaves the Champions League.

Since Luis Enrique’s side lifted this trophy in 2015, Real Madrid have won it 3 times so they’re desperate to recapture this crown.

The goalless first leg leaves the tie in the balance but they’ll surely finish the job at home, won’t they?

Ivan Rakitic Barcelona

Lyon are out to cause a huge upset.

Bruno Génésio was content after the first leg knowing that a score draw here would be enough.

Draws have been Lyon’s speciality in the Champions League this season; 6 of their 7 games have ended all square.

In domestic football, Les Gones are third in Ligue 1 after a 2-2 draw at Strasbourg on Saturday.

They also have a Coupe de France semi-final against Stade Rennais to look forward to as they target silverware for the first time since 2012.

But they’d love to cause a shock in Europe.

They reached the semi-finals in 2010 and that remains their best run in the competition.

They’re big outsiders but can they defeat the 5-time champions of Europe?

10 of Ernesto Valverde’s starters pick themselves.

He just has one big decision to make.

Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be targeting his 16th clean sheet in just his 37th appearance this season.

The Spaniards Sergi Roberto, Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba will be in defence.

The only question is who will be alongside them?

Samuel Umtiti was the first choice but has played just 10 times this season due to two knee injuries.

His deputy, Clément Lenglet, has been outstanding so will keep his place meaning Umtiti will miss the chance to take on his hometown club.

Nélson Semedo is the only player for either team one booking away from suspension but he’s unlikely to feature.

The first choice midfield is Busquets, Rakitić and Arthur.

The latter has been outstanding since signing from Grêmio last summer.

The preferred front three remains Messi, Suárez and Ousmane Dembélé.

Those three have 77 goals between them already this season.

That does mean, despite starting on Saturday, Philippe Coutinho will be on the bench.

He’ll be joined there by the likes of  Carles Aleñá, Arturo Vidal, Malcom and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Not bad options.

It’s a strong, settled, well balance Barça side and one which should be too good for Lyon.

Olympique Lyonnais team news vs Barcelona

Nabil Fekir

Bruno Génésio will be out to stop them.

He too rested a few players at the weekend but the big guns are back and ready to play.

Portugese goalkeeper Anthony Lopes will be desperate for his tenth clean sheet of the season.

Centre-backs Jason Denayer and Marcelo were immense in the first leg and will need to be just as good here.

Léo Dubois will once again be preferred to Kenny Tete at right-back.

In midfield, Tanguy Ndombélé will come in after sitting out the weekend’s match.

As will, Nabil Fekir who missed the first leg through suspension.

His return is a major boost.

Fekir, alongside Memphis and Traoré are a frightening attacking trio.

They’ll be in behind Moussa Dembélé who’s got 15 goals since joining from Celtic in August.

As they proved at Manchester City in September, this is a talented side but can they pull off a famous Champions League upset?
