Barcelona looks to tap into home support at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday evening as the Spanish giants have their backs against the wall in the Champions League and sit outside of the top two while being in real danger of once again missing out on the knockout stages for the second consecutive season.
Away losses to Inter Milan and tomorrow’s visitors in Bavarian juggernaut Bayern Munich have cost Xavi’s men dearly thus far in Group C, with just four points on record, and their inability to dispatch Inter on matchday four in a 3-3 draw in Catalunya could come back to bite them. Tomorrow is a must-win clash for Barça who, at least, is a better version of themselves when at home and that could give them some sort of platform for performance against Julian Nagelsmann’s men, who need just a point on their travels to confirm themselves as group winners.
Bayern comes into proceedings on the back of four wins in four on the continent and has hit a better stride in the Bundesliga after going on a four-match unbeaten run (3-1-0) and may find confidence in the wake of their away win against Hoffenheim. CL leading goalscorer Leroy Sané is absent, however, as are Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernández, and Bouna Sarr.
Neuer’s absence may prove decisive on the night, and though Barcelona has a contingent of their own that will miss proceedings in the vein of Memphis Depay, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araújo, and Sergi Roberto, Robert Lewandowski could make his former club pay without the German shot-stopping stalwart available for selection.
Form does not lie, however, so a draw here could be a real possibility, though the expected Inter Milan win against hapless Viktoria Plzen would mean Barcelona could be consigned to the Europa League with one match to spare.
